SUB is one of the best spaces to explore and spend your time outside of class.

If you’ve never been to campus before—or haven’t been there in a while—SUB is where you can take a break, grab a bite, connect with what’s going on in our campus community, access services, resources, and businesses, and so much more.

SUB is your space to relax and fuel up

From comfy spaces with plenty of natural light to quiet study areas (all conveniently located close to coffee and easy printing services), and tons of charging outlets for your phone, SUB is a great place to keep you focused and fuelled. Soak in the natural sunlight from a comfy seat while enjoying a treat from SUBmart, The Daily Grind, or anything else you might be craving from the food court.

  • SUBmart is the campus general store on the main floor of SUB, where you can grab a few groceries, a quick meal, and even more—alongside UASU swag and other goodies!

  • At The Daily Grind, not only will you find great treats and drinks to help you fuel up, but it’s also one of the greenest spaces on campus and gives back to students (since it’s our coffee shop!). Stop by today for affordable certified fair trade and organic coffee, delicious monthly specials, and perfect treats you can grab before running across campus to class.

Helpful services and resources are never far away

One of the best parts about SUB is that most services you’ll need—from physical and mental health support, to helpful people and welcoming spaces—are all located in the building!

(Pro tip: there’s also an extensive pedway system that connects SUB to many other buildings on campus.)

Not only will you find the University Health Centre and Pharmacy here, but you’ll also find the headquarters of the Peer Support Centre and The Landing, two services the UASU provides to help support you.

  • Get in touch with the Peer Support Centre if you ever need a free, confidential, and non-judgemental place to talk to someone for support. Trained volunteers offer peer support, crisis management, information and resources, as well as a safe and confidential place to talk. No issue is too big or too small.

  • The Landing—our centre supporting gender and sexual diversity, gender equality, and the safety and acceptance of all individuals—is here for you too. To support LGBTQ2S+ communities and individuals as well as their supporters, friends, family and loved ones, The Landing offers regularly scheduled staffed drop-in hang-out hours, one-on-one peer support services and mentorship, educational sessions, outreach and events, volunteer opportunities, and more.

Connect with your community in SUB

When we say SUB is a great place to connect with your community, we mean more than SUB just being a great place to meet with your friends between classes.

With more than 400 student groups on campus, your UASU's Student Group Services can direct you to groups with similar interests, help you start your own group, or provide your group with helpful resources. Additionally, UASU InfoLink Help Desks can help connect you to resources, help, how to get to different places on campus, and more.

SUB is also here to help you make the most of your time off. Throughout the year, you can enjoy events, live music and movies brought to you by UASU Events. COVID-19 mandates and changes may impact these opportunities, so make sure you stay up-to-date by checking out the Events Calendar.

So, if you’re trying to orient—or re-orient—yourself around campus this fall, set new study habits and routines, or find easy ways to connect with the campus community, start in SUB. See you around!

*Heads up! Renovations in SUB means detours for you. You’ll still be able to enjoy spaces, services and businesses as usual, but keep an eye out for SUB signage and maps to help you get around.
