Exam season is here! Whether you’re worried about doing well, limiting distractions, or maintaining your mental health, there are a ton of resources from your UASU and the University available to help you this month! Here’s what you need to know:

For your grades

InfoLink has a ton of resources available to help you succeed throughout the semester. The InfoLink Exam Registry connects you with copies of past exams to help you anticipate what might be on your final. If you could use some help understanding the course content, the InfoLink Tutor Registry can help you find qualified, one-on-one tutoring (rates vary by tutor). Need to talk through the worst case scenario of failing your final? InfoLink staff can answer questions about your grades, or help you find your faculty office for more specific guidance.

Sometimes the key to success is finding a study spot that meets your needs. SUB is open 24/7 for you to study alone or with friends, fuel up, or take a break. There are quieter spaces available, like the Alumni Room (main floor) and the Quiet Lounge (lower level). Just bring your ONEcard to access SUB from 10 PM to 6:30 AM. You can also print your notes or make copies from your textbooks at SUBprint, and stock up on study supplies and (well deserved) snacks at SUBmart!

If a library is more your vibe, north campus has a bunch, some of which have bookable study rooms. Check daily hours and availability to find the best place to call home while you cram for exams.

Need some emergency help from a learning specialist? The university’s Academic Success Centre offers in-person and virtual drop-in services for things like time management, communication skills, and exam preparation.

For yourself

Exam season can be incredibly stressful, but you are not alone. There are many resources available to support your mental health throughout exam season (and the rest of the year), including:

  • The Peer Support Centre is your UASU’s free, confidential and safe space offering peer support, crisis management, information and resources. You can meet with volunteers in-person in SUB or online. No issue is too big or too small.
  • You can also access Empower Me (available through your Health and Dental plan) for 24/7 mental health and wellness support.
  • The Landing also offers peer supportive listening services catered towards the needs of 2SLGBTQ+ students. Book an appointment or drop in during operational hours.
  • The university’s Counselling and Clinical Services also offers free and confidential support to students for anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, grief, trauma and more.

If you’re not sure what kind of support you need, there’s also UASU Cares or the UAlberta Crisis Hub to help you connect with the right campus or community resources to support your wellness.

Studying late on campus? Don’t stress about having to walk to transit in the dark. Safewalk volunteers will accompany you around campus, on the LRT, and within 10 blocks of train stations between Southgate and Churchill. If you feel unsafe on campus outside of Safewalk’s operational hours, you can always call UAlberta’s Protective Services for assistance.

When you need a fun brain break between studying for exams or finishing papers, you can always borrow a board game from InfoLink’s Student Life Central, or take a stroll around north campus, which covers 50 city blocks!

So whatever you need to support your success and wellness this exam season, we hope you’ll find it here! Good luck on all of your final tasks this semester, you’ve got this!
