Stovetop Popcorn
(adapted from https://cleananddelicious.com/stovetop-popcorn/)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 3/4 tbsp avocado oil/olive oil/coconut oil
- salt
Seasoning ideas:
- a couple pinches of salt
- brown sugar and/or cinnamon
- nutritional yeast (great source of vitamin B12 for vegans/vegetarians)
- taco seasoning
- dried dill
Directions:
- Over medium heat, add your oil to a medium saucepan. Allow the oil to heat up.
- Once the oil is hot, add a couple kernels and put the lid on the pan. When the kernels start popping you can add the rest and cover the pan once again. A great tip from Dani from cleananddelicious is to now remove the pan from the heat for thirty seconds which allows the kernels to pop at the same time. While the kernels are popping ensure you give the pan a shake now and then.
- A tip I have to avoid burning the kernels is to turn the heat off when half of the kernels have popped. This allows the rest of the kernels to pop using the heat that is already there. Another tip is to slowly rotate the pan in circular motions slightly above the element. I find rotating the pan can ensure they are all popping and helps avoid burning.
- Once the kernels are all popped, season immediately with salt and/or your choice of seasoning. Fill the mason jars with the popcorn. The mason jars will keep your popcorn fresh for when you’re ready to snack on it!
